Facial Care for Men

Talking about facial care for may seem a strange topic and unimportant to some men. Facial care for men isn’t a new fad but something that has been routinely practiced for thousands of years. From the Egyptian Pharaohs to the times of the Roman emperors, facial grooming has been an important part of a men’s daily custom. Thankfully these days, there are far more products than simply lip balm and aftershave available. More and more men are coming to realize the importance of skin care to them. Men now have an enormous range of choices for face care and grooming along with the beauty products for women. A complete facial care regimen for men requires daily gentle cleansing, an occasional deep cleansing mask and the regular use of moisturizers.

Facial Care for Men Made Easy

First of all, it should be obvious that men cannot follow the same facial care program for women. Facial skin care should be differently designed for men and women. The most significant difference is that men shave. A man’s skin though more sensitive, is thicker and oilier than a woman’s skin. For this reason alone, using products formulated for women will not be beneficial at all. A man should use products especially formulated for men, whether he has a full beard or do shave only once a week.

Basic Face Care

Facial Cleanser – Soap dries the skin so a man needs something that will break down the grit and grime he has accumulated during the day without drying the skin. He needs to clean his face in the morning, before shaving and before going to bed. Basically masques are deep cleansers.

Shave gel or cream – these products provide the necessary barrier between the razor and the skin. Avoid those that contain foaming soap agents because again, these types dry the skin without providing adequate lubrication. Poor shaving creams can result into many shaving irritations. A man who has a tough beard or sensitive skin should consider using pre-shave oil too.

Post-shave balm/cream/gel -Many men don’t apply this product although this is indeed a very important step. It moisturizes cools and calms the skin especially after the harsh impact of shaving.

Intermediate Face Care

Moisturizer – For those days when a man doesn’t shave, he needs a separate facial moisturizer. He also needs to apply it after exposure to water, heat, or wind. Moisturizing is an essential step to keep skin looking always young and fresh.

Scrub or exfoliator – scrubbing or exfoliating facial skin gives way to a smoother shave and minimizes the chances of getting ingrown hairs. It helps to get rid of all those dead skin cells and results to smoother and fresher skin. Exfoliating can be done 2-3 times a week before shaving. It also act as a cleanser so there is no need for a separate facial cleanser.

Advanced Face Care

Toner – A good looking face needs a toner. Toners are used to cleanse and tighten facial pores and to remove any grime and dirt that was lifted but not wiped away for cleansing or shaving. A toner should be used after shaving and before the aftershave balm. On non-shaving days, a toner can be sued after cleansing and before using a moisturizer.

Mask – This is used once a week especially for those who have large pores or oily skin. It absorbs excess oils, remove impurities from the skin and tighten the pores and as such, masks can be more beneficial to a man than to a woman.

Any man will improve his skin’s appearance through deep cleansing and improved circulation to the skin. His skin will become clear after the first few massages so be prepared for a relatively short period of outbreaks after the first two massages. After this, he will be pleased with the clean and clear appearance of his skin.
